COMPUTERS FOR UGANDA

The Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) at Wayne State College will be providing computers and training to children in rural Uganda, Africa.

Goals and Strategies of the Computers of Uganda Project:

· To foster Wayne State's commitment of service and develop a sense of service and civic responsibility in the College's students.

· The project will provide ACM members with a "hands on" service-learning experience as they acquire components and build the computers.

· The experience will require ACM members to research strategies to acquire funds and provide insight into the needs of regions of our world that lack technology.

· ACM will provide computers to rural children in Uganda who have not received computers for other donating groups.

· Actively recruit other campus groups and educators to become involved with the project.

· Raise awareness and interest in the project by sponsoring a campus-wide event in conjunction with National Youth Service Day.

· Establish the project so that it will become an on-going service-learning experience for the Association for Computing Machinery club members.

The Computers for Uganda project is funded in part by the Wayne State College chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and by a grant through the Youth Service America organization's State Farm Good Neighbor Service-Learning Awards and AT&T Cares Youth Service Action Fund.
