PRIDE is a discussion group for students who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transexual (GLBT) and their friends. The purpose of this group is to provide support to students and to inform the college community about issues which are of concern to the GLBT community. The group is confidential and an interviewing process for prospective members is required.

  • arranging panelists who are willing to discuss their experiences growing up for Child and Adolescent Growth and Development classes

  • making rainbow stickers available to to faculty/staff/administrators who signed agreement

  • providing an information table during recruitment sessions (Senior Preview Day/Parent's Day)

  • initiating dialogue with administration regarding students' classroom experiences and suggestions so that faculty could be more inclusive

  • encouraging administration to include "sexual orientation" in acceptance policy statement

  • organizing movie nights and discussion following viewing

  • participating in "chalking" on sidewalks

  • writing state representatives about legislation which affects gays and lesbians

  • networking with gay and lesbian groups in the state

Scholarship Available: Students interested in gay, lesbian, bisexual, and /or transgender issues are invited to apply for the WSC PRIDE Endowed Scholarship by submitting a scholarship application and essay indicating their interest in GLBT issues.
