Distant Guests
WSC Rugby in their first year has had some special guests
with superior rugby knowledge.
Keith Dalton
Ft. Worth, Texas
Prop
Member of 2000 National Champions Fort Worth Stampede (Retired)
Head Coach of Texas Christian University
Mr. Dalton has been to Wayne 7 times in the last 2 years.
His first trip was to do the play-by-play radio broadcast
for the Fox Sports World Rugby Challenge held in Wayne in
April of 2001between Nebraska University and U. of Northern
Iowa. NE Nebraska caught this southern boy off guard during
a perfect 25-degree day with sleet being blown in from a cold
north wind blowing at 30 MPH. This was only the beginning
as hail and a tornado funnel cloud was only 15 miles away.
His second trip was for the 2002 Fox Sports World Rugby challenge
in Norfolk between Nebraska University and Oklahoma in front
of 1,700 fans at Norfolk Stadium.
Mr. Dalton then came to WSC for 4 days to help out the new
program in his specialty, the front row of props and hookers.
These practices were praised by all WSC players on the knowledge
and technique learned from this master.
Another trip was during the play-by-play radio broadcast
of the Scottish Festival game in Scotland, SD. \
Between WSC and SD State
After watching the greatly improved WSC team in September
of 2002, Mr. Dalton offered a challenge to WSC that could
not be turned away. TCU, a Division 1 University, challenging
the CATS on homecoming week was going to make the 12 hours
journey to WSC. The trouble was that he taught the new kitties
of WSC too much, as the men defeated the TCU frogs that day
in a stadium setting in Laurel, Nebraska.
WSC rugby players have treated Mr. Dalton for his efforts
with endless of amounts of Rocky Mountain Oysters
and Tiger Meat. TCU is looking to return a visit
up to WSC in Sept. of 2003 for the British Days Festival with
a revenge match against WSC. A return trip to Wayne for another
coaching clinic in March of 2003 is written down on his very
busy work schedule.
Mr. Dalton is very humble, but in the 2000 National Championship
game with only 20 seconds remaining and Ft. Worth trailing
by 4 points on the 5 yard line, Mr. Dalton in his tight-head
prop position was able to win his match against his opposition
and walk the scrum in from the 5-yardline for a demoralizing
push over score with no time remaining. His trips to Wayne
and financial expenses not reimbursed to help out WSC should
not go without praise with a bottomless glass and a plate
full of Nebraska Beef on his future visits to downtown Wayne.
Dan Morgan
Salt Lake City, Utah
Flanker
Member of the 2000 National Championship (Retired)
Head Coach of Skyline High School Rugby in Salt Lake City
President of Ruck and Maul Rugby Promotions
Drummer of the hard rock band Texorcist
Mr. Morgans first visit to Wayne was during the 2002
Fox Sports World Rugby Challenge in Norfolk, Nebraska. As
the mastermind behind rugby/sports marketing, his key to happy
sponsors is to surpass their expectations from their investment
into an event. Mr. Morgan was the lead man in planning a very
successful event in Norfolk with 1,700 spectators and also
the rugby planning of the 2002 Scottish Festival and Highland
Games in Scotland, SD in September of 2002. Strong plans are
underway for the 2003 British Days in LeMars, Iowa on Sept.
20th with rugby as the lead attraction that day.
In September of 2002, Mr. Morgan took a fine group of rookies
for the WSC mens and womens teams and make the
locks and flankers have a very intense rugby 3 day clinic
before the Scottish Festival Game.
Mr. Morgan has had businesses give Skyline High School, rugby
scholarship money for its players that would like to
move on to play college rugby after high school graduation.
If there is a rugby event with paperwork stacked to the ceiling,
Mr. Morgan is the one to make sure that the sponsors are grateful
that they are part of the event and surpassed their exposure
over their normal advertising dollars. Ruck and Maul Rugby
Promotions will handle much of WSCs events.
Bryn Chivers
USA U-19's Women's Coach
Mr. Chivers came to Wayne on nice 2 day mini-camp scouting visit and tought WSC plenty during his time spent on campus.
Henno Terblanche
Botswana South Africa
Fullback
(Retired)
Amateur Golf Player and Travel Circuit member in Florida
Mr. Terblanche first trip to Nebraska was for the play-by-play
radio broadcast of the Fox Sports World Rugby Challenge in
Norfolk, Nebraska in Oct. of 2001 with the game between Nebraska
University and Oklahoma University in front of 1,700 fans.
Mr. Terblanche was probably the first South African ever
to step onto the WSC Campus. Henno was at WSC for a second
visit in October of 2001 for the very first meeting to see
how many WSC students were going to show up from the ad that
was placed in the Wayne Stater campus newspaper.
With only 5 students in the meeting room, 5-minutes before
the meeting was to start, club founder Darrin Barner went
down stairs to make some photocopies in the Student Center.
Henno, shortly after walked down stairs and to the copier
and said *(^^$^$jhvgffclL)$^%$##%(*&hkljhuturgfdye^%^^$^
Translated into English I TELLING YOU MATE, YOU BETTER
HAVE TWO HANDFULL OF NICKLES FOR THE COPIER, THERRE
60 KIDS UPSTAIRS. And thus Henno Terblanche witnessed
the first ever WSC rugby meeting and gave a great speech to
the new members of WSC Rugby Club. His best quote of the day
was It is freezing here, where are the Eskimo Igloos?
Mr. Terblanche was not use to 40-degree weather in October,
being from a country that can get up to 125 degrees.
Henno Terblanche was recruited by the Fort Worth Stampede
and was a key offensive weapon on Fort Worths 5 visits
to the Sweet 16s in the 1990s. Including
a 57-yard field goal with no time left and told the opposition
that because of their poor sportsmanship, he was going to
kick it with his opposite foot. The kick spit the middle of
the posts.
