Tour and Mini-Tours
Just in our first year of 2002, we have taken some great
road trips and mini-tours.
In April of 2002, we have had a charter bus trip, all the
way up to the Wisconsin border where the girls went 3-0 and
outscoring their opponents 91-0. This trip was not possible
until "Royal Charters"
gave our club a fantastic financial donation and made this
trip possible.
We used ROYAL
Charters again for a trip up to Fargo,
ND and Moorhead, MN for a tournament way up North in September
of 2002. We went so far North, that a few
of us were looking to see any Canadian Mounties.
To help improve our rugby skills, two mini-tours were also
taken during our first year.
A trip to Texas in August of 2002
was taken by some of the players off of the girl's team and
practiced with the Fort Worth Stampede to get ready for the
new season. Nightlife in "BIG D" and "Downtown
Cowtown" made the trip even more special.

A trip to Las Vegas in Jan. of 2003
was also taken by some players from the girl's team to see
what true "Rugby Brotherhood" can be like in the
city that never sleeps. At one of the shows in town, a group
of 4 were sitting next to the WSC Girls and talked with an
strong accent. Within minutes one of the gentlemen at the
table was a referee for Rugby Union play in England and sat
with the girls for an enjoyable show in Las Vegas.
Three South African Ruggers were spotted wearing Springbok
jerseys outside the Stardust and the Westward Ho Hotels and
an Ausie and a Kiwi had jerseys on at the Hard Rock Hotel.
No Irish players were spotted on this trip due to the fact
the "British Bulldog" pub; on the North side of
Las Vegas Blvd. had Guinness on tap for a buck, 24/7. A true
Irishman can not pass up on that fun. As they said "Elvis
has just left the building", you will never hear "The
Irish ruggers have just left the pub."

first big Texas Tour. That was topped off by going

Spring of 2004----
Western Playoffs for 2004 National Championship
Men Travel to Dallas, Texas---------Women Travel
to Lawrence, KS
Women at one time was leading the game VS the Air Force just
before the first half ended.
The WSC Women won two games that weekend, but
fell one game short of going to the “Sweet 16”
falling to 2-Time National Champions Air Force.
The Men put on an impressive showing knocking off Missouri
in Westerns before falling out of tournament play with a loss
to Angelo State.
Fall Break 2004
A 7-hour drive took us to the Tri-State Area of Wisconsin,
Minnesota and Iowa. We were right on the Mississippi River
and the trees and valley were something a bit more colorful
then an old rugby pitch.
Just a short 30-minute drive from the Mississippi River is
Luther College. WSC won the games but who cares, the Luther
Ladies and Gents took us over to the Rugby House and gave
us the best “SOS” we have ever had. Spaghetti
on a Shingle.
A stones throw away in Wartburg College, and we popped over
there to play the very next day and were treated like champs
at the Rugby House with plenty to eat.
After a big meal the Wild-Wartburgians took us to a Karaoke
Bar where we did our best not to get booed since we are not
up for any Grammy Awards this year. Thanks to both Luther
and Wartburg for Food, Fun and Lodging on our Wednesday---Saturday
Trip to the Mississippi River Valley.
On the way back we stopped at Pocahontas, Iowa to take a team
photo with a 65-Foot Pocahontas Statue.
End of Season Trip Fall 2004
An 8-Hour trip down South put us for a great weekend in
Norman, Oklahoma. Oklahoma University actually called WSC
Coach Darrin Barner during a rugby game at SD State way back
in April and invited Wayne State to challenge the might OU
Sooners in the “FULL CONTACT TAILGATE PARTY”.
The rugby game was played 2 hours before the big Nebraska
vs. OU Football game just behind the parking lot area of the
football stadium. We watched the football game on TV, and
OU had food and drinks for us at the best clubhouse in the
USA. You have to see this place it is
