I Want to
Play
If you are looking to join the team send e-mail to wscrugby@hotmail.com
or go to the Student Activities Office, and they will have
the contact phone number for our rookie Department.
The equipment you will need is very minimal. If we are practicing
indoors, soft-soled basketball shoes, T-Shirt and shorts will
be perfect. Outdoors wearing some type of football, soccer,
or softball cleats is best.
Depending on the weather, shorts or sweatpants along with
a sweatshirt will get you ready for your outdoor practice.
PLEASE
INVEST IN A $2 MOUTH GUARD!
Although we try to keep contact to a minimum at practice a
mouth guard should be warn at all times
Both the men and the women teams will play in 3 types of
rugby games.
Social----These games are made to
be for fun only and acts of kindness are stressed on tackling.
Most social games are short and play for only 30-40 minutes.
These games also have a nice BBQ where the teams involved
can mingle and have the rookies talk to the veterans and learn
more about the game with a cold drink and hot food. These
games are the ones for players of all ages and you will see
some teams with 50-year-old Alumni stepping in just to have
a laugh and a run with the ball for a few minutes. These are
perfect for first time players where rookie mistakes happen
every minute and topped off with great comedy on both sides
of the ball. Bring a lawn-chair; these games are made to be
fun for everyone.
Friendly----These games will pick
up the competition level quite a bit over a social
game and are a true competitive game. Some rules of rugby
may be altered to allow more substitutions and time outs to
allow the coaches to give on field advice to the younger players
with the captains and referees approval before the game.
These games are played hard and to see who has the better
team. This game will no doubt leave all players tired and
sore after the game is over. Some rules may be changed but
not many. Hard running is stressed and most coaches use open
substitutions in these games to finalize the starting 15-man
line up for the CUP Games. Most Friendly games
are now starting to be called NON-League games,
because there is nothing really friendly about
them at all until the game is over and a more relaxing time
at the social gathering after the game. These games are normal
40-60 minutes. The true meaning of Friendly is
when the match is over and the host team puts on a nice social
so you can find the guy or gal that gave you a hard tackle
and shake their hand.
CUP OR LEAGUE MATCHES----These games
will be played by the official IRB, International Rugby Board.
This is a game that will count on your league standings. The
top 15 players take the field and NO open substitutions are
allowed. These games are played for 80 minutes and are a true
challenge of fitness.
