General Information > Short Story Contest > Story Format
On the first page, you should include your name, address, story title,
category, and approximate length of the story. The positioning of these
elements should look something like this (DO NOT INCLUDE THE WORDS IN
PARENTHESES! -- they are only there to clarify positioning of the elements):
(Position this element in the upper left corner, or one third of the way down the page, of your document:)
Your Name
Your Address
City, State Zip
Your E-mail Address
Your Phone Number
(space)
Category you are entering
Grade Level (if applicable)
(space down several spaces so you are in the middle of the page, then
put the title of the story, followed by a blank line, then the story
length)
Monsters Are People Too
@ 4500 words
(-- pretend this is the page break and the following information is
on the second page -- )
Monsters Are people Too/Page#
(Your story begins here, on the second page. Note: In the "header"
section of the document, the information above (title and page number)
should be displayed on each page, justified to the right side, with
appropriate page numbers. DO NOT INCLUDE YOUR NAME! This contest is
a blind review process and judges do not know authors' names until awards
are given.)

General information: We prefer that you double space your documents, but if you are going to do so, make sure you use the built in function of your word processor; it really messes with the conversion to the website when you press enter twice or otherwise create a manual line break. Paragraphs are great, or line breaks between blocks of text, or some way of indicating scene breaks or new information. We discourage having the entire story be one long block of text. It is difficult to read and makes it hard to keep track of the story line. Two final words: Spell Check!
