Monster Cave
by
Richard David Cummings
If you wish to NOT be dead… enter NOT the cave ahead.
For caves are dark and dreary places, and Monsters have such scary faces.
You think you’re strong, and brave, and cool? Then go on in you stupid fool.
If you continue on your quest, you must be better than the best.
For many men have come and tried and just as many men have died.
Their bones are scattered on the ground so think again and turn around.
Don’t they teach you back in school that in dark caves the Monsters rule?
They lie in wait and wait to grab some sadly unsuspecting lad
Who reads this poem, then with a grin, girds his loins and enters in.
They don’t believe the tales of old and all the stories they’ve been told
Of Belly-beasts, and Horrid-Snorrids, Kreegats, Bookins, and despicable Torrids.
As bad as all those creatures are, the Monster here is worse by far.
So heed my warning, it’s your LAST, turn around and run home fast.
Don’t enter in, don’t even try. Don’t tempt your fate, let Monsters lie.
For if you wish to NOT be dead….enter NOT the cave ahead
NOTE: There was a nice image of the poem that gave it another perspective and added a visual component that really enhanced the submisson, but alas...trying to save it degraded the image to the point it was not usable. But the wording of the poem itself is still excellent! ~Webmaster
