Whispers in the Wind
by
Lucy Zhang
A bright early morning
Is what I wake up to
Everything seems
As perfect as it can get
But I am yearning for something else
Something that can soothe my restless mind
What, I wonder?
I head outside
In the light of the dawn
Searching for it
The newly grown grass
Is crisp under my feet
Crunch crunch
I listen to the sound I make
As I take each step
No
My mind will not stop
Its constant churning
I hear the sweet music
Of the bluebirds chirping
A song is weaved
From the beautiful notes
It sings of love and hope
But still I am not comforted
By the flowing melody
Is there no point in searching?
Suddenly
Just as I despair
Will this thing ever be found?
My tormented thoughts stop
There! Everything is still
Nothing is wrong
But I have not continued to look
So how does my mind feel so peaceful?
I do not know
And yet
As I listen all the more carefully
I realize that it has been there all along
It’s as if I could truly hear
The whispers in the wind
