Professional Staff Senate

Following the brunch, Professional Staff Senate Chair, Lin Brummels, called the annual meeting to order at 10:00 a.m.
Lin presented an overview of the accomplishments of 2002-2003, the first full year of existence for the Professional Staff Senate.
- A constitution was drafted and adopted
- Committee chairs were introduced and a brief report from each committee
was presented:
- Mentoring (Brummels) -- A campus-wide mentoring program has been
developed with faculty and support staff and will be utilized by the
HR position currently being advertised
- Social (Barelman) two social events took place during the
year, a potluck and a gathering at the Max. The potluck is being planned
again for this year in September.
- Recognition (DeBoer) Planned the recognition brunch
- Continuing Education (Gardner) Provided several workshops
throughout the year and will continue to plan workshops on additional
topics of interest.
- Membership (Polenske) Keep a database of current membership
- Hospitality (Weber) Send cards, gifts and or flowers to the
membership in recognition of life events. Please inform Dorothy Weber
of any events. The Courtesy Club suggested donation is $3.00 and can
be sent to Dorothy also.
- Policy (Bulock) Reviewed and discussed several policies.
- Communication (Smith) sends information, messages and minutes
to the membership. Conducted a survey of professional staff interests.
- Mentoring (Brummels) -- A campus-wide mentoring program has been
developed with faculty and support staff and will be utilized by the
HR position currently being advertised
- One member served on fall Budget Review Committee and four members served
on the Budget Advisory Committee.
- An amendment to the Professional Staff Senate was passed to allow non-voting
membership to supervisory support staff excluded from the support staff
membership.
- The Professional Staff Senate kept informed of the budget cutting procedures
and met with the President, VPAA and VPFA to keep apprised of those procedures
and to offer a voice for the membership.
- The following members were recognized for their years of service to
Wayne State College and presented a certificate by Interim President,
Curt Frey:
- 10 years Jason Barelman, John Dunning, Sharon Vanis and Ruth Smith
- 15 years Marcus Schlichter
- 20 years Marilyn Liedorff and Marilyn Wilson
- 25 years Kyle Rose and Barbara Meyer
- All professional Staff employees introduced themselves.
Meeting adjourned at 10:30.
