Professional Staff Senate
Regular Meeting – November 5, 2004
Senators Present: Derek Anderson, Lin Brummels, Eddie Elfers, Dave Graber, Cheri Polenske, Dorothy Weber
Senators absent: Brandon Eckmann, Oliver Twelvetrees
Liaisons from Other Senates Present: None
Guests: Gretchen Bauman
Lin called the meeting to order at 11:00; a quorum was present.
The October minutes were approved as written on motion from Dorothy Weber, second from Eddie Elfers.
Gretchen Bauman spoke regarding the casual worker policy. The HR department can be contacted with any questions regarding that issue.
Committee reports:
- Mentoring (Brummels) The mentors are on hold waiting for a training program schedule.
- Social (Eckmann) No Report
- Recognition (Anderson) No Report
- Continuing Education (Graber) Kent Blaser is working on a program regarding the history of WSC. The program is very tentative for March or April.
- Membership (Polenske) No Report
- Hospitality (Weber) A card and gift were sent to Jana Burns and her family to welcome the arrival of their new baby. The balance in the treasury is $208.22.
- Policy (Twelvetrees) No Report
- Communication (Elfers) Eddie will contact College Relations to have the PSS meeting times posted on the Campus At A Glance reminders.
Agenda Items:
- The Mentor Training is on hold. The mentors are awaiting a training schedule.
- The Student Senate is promoting a holiday initiative. “Tie One On For The Holidays” is a volunteer program to commit to not drinking and driving over the holiday season. A motion was made to have the PSS Senate endorse this program on motion by Derek Anderson, second from Dave Graber, motion carried. Any person wanting to volunteer for the initiative can sign a contract in the student center at the entrance to the food service. Any person wanting to help staff the initiative table can call the Student Senate.
- The PSS Senate has been asked to nominate a person to the Campus Safety Committee. The senate will forward the nominations to Derby Johnson.
- Lin will request nominations for a Professional Staff member to serve on the VPAA search committee.
- The PSS Senate will also be submitting nominations for the Dean of Education Search Committee.
The next regular meeting will be Friday 11:00 A.M. December 3, 2004, Bluestem.
