Professional Staff Senate
Regular Meeting - January 14, 2005
Present: Dorothy Weber, Dave Graber, Derek Anderson, Lin Brummels
Absent: Cheri Polenske, Brandon Eckmann, Eddie Elfers, Oliver Twelvetrees
Support Staff Representative: Bill Long
Other professional staff: Clarissa Kaiser
The meeting was called to order and items discussed, but no decisions were made as there was no quorum.
Committee Reports:
- Mentoring: The Professional Staff Senate website has been moved to the e-campus page under “Other Academic Support”. The Mentoring website can then be accessed by clicking on the Professional Staff Senate site and then Mentoring.
- Social: No report.
- Recognition: No report – follow plan for 8/11/05.
- Continuing Education: Dave reported that a History of WSC program is being planned for spring and will probably be held in March or April.
- Membership: No report.
- Hospitality: Cards were sent to Marilyn Wilson, Mimi Moore, Jamie Paulson
and Phyllis Spethman for various recognitions in December. Dorothy reported
that we have $205.25 in the account. .
Policy: Reviewed the “time card” policy for students and other casual workers. There was a question about how to handle a situation when the supervisor disagrees with the hours tallied by the worker. There was no further discussion of the computer user’s policy as Senators did not think the proposed policy changes will greatly affect WSC. - Communication: Eddie sent out a message earlier about opening the Professional Staff website to everyone or having information available only by those signed on to e-campus. It was the consensus of those present to have the site open to all. An open site will assist potential new employees to learn about the professional organization at WSC. It will also be available to anyone wanting to learn more about professional organizations in general.
Agenda Items:
Safety Committee: Kathy Mohlfeld will be the professional staff representative to the campus Safety Committee.
Future considerations: The Senators present would like to monitor campus searches in process and participate in any open interviews. Senators also wish to continue to participate in the General Education revision discussions.
An e-mail vote of the Senators will be held to vote on approval of the minutes of the December meeting and the recommendation to open the Professional Staff Senate website to the public following the meeting. The e-mail vote of the Senators approved both measures.
The meeting adjourned at 12:00. The next meeting will be February 4, 2005 at 11:00 in the Bluestem Room.
Respectfully submitted
Lin Brummels
For Cheri Polenske
