Professional Staff Senate Meeting Minutes
August 2, 2006

Call to order:

Dave Graber, Chair, called the meeting to order at 11:10 a.m.; a quorum was present.

Attendance:

Senators present: Dave Graber, Derek Anderson, Lin Brummels, Eddie Elfers, Kevin Halle, Bev Buhrman, Marcus Schlichter

Absent: Loren Kucera and Mary Carstens

Approval of minutes from last meeting:

The Senate tabled approval of June minutes until they can be sent out to all Professional Staff and reviewed.

Committee Reports:

Mentoring: Brochures are available for new employees in HR
Social: No Report
Recognition: No Report
Continuing Ed: No Report
Membership: Eddie will update the member list for the next chair of this committee.
Hospitality: $266.84 is currently in the bank. Dues will be collected at the recognition brunch.
Policy: No action has been taken on the Parking Committee
Communication: No Report

New business:

Dave Graber welcomed new Senators Bev Buhrman and Marcus Schlichter. Mary Carstens and Loren Kucera are also newly elected but were not present. He briefed them on a few details of the Senate and possible committee assignments.

Discussion was held on the open chair positions of committees within the Senate and how they can be filled accordingly.

This is Dave Graber’s last meeting with the Pro Staff Senate. Derek will become chair at September’s meeting.

The note was made that Human Resources has been doing a great job of notifying campus of new openings, departures and the hiring of new employees. The Senate appreciates the effort to improve communication.

Eddie will be sending out the amendment of the PSS Constitution to reflect the change in the duties of the Chair elect to a three year term: Chair-Elect, Chair, Past-Chair.

Employee Recognition continues to be established. Dave and Lin are working with HR.

The Professional Staff recognition brunch is scheduled for Thursday August 10th at 10:00 am in the Student Center Frey Suite.

Meetings have been moved to the first Thursday of the month at 2:00 in the afternoon to accommodate new Senators and their schedules.
