Professional Staff Senate Meeting Minutes
January 11, 2006

Call to order:

Dave Graber, Senate President called to order the regular meeting of the WSC Professional Staff Senate at 11:10AM on January 11th, 2006

Attendance:

The following Senators were present: Dave Graber, Oliver Twelvetrees, Kevin Halle, Eddie Elfers, Derek Anderson, Lin Brummels

Absent: Brandon Eckman, Tammy Tyson.

A quorum was present.

Approval of minutes from last meeting:

The minutes from the December 7th meeting were approved accordingly.

Committee Reports:

Mentoring: The new brochures are being printed and will be available soon.
Social: No Report
Recognition: No report. Derek mentioned there has not been any action on the Parking Committee as of this meeting.
Continuing Ed: No Report
Membership: Inquiry of any new members or staff leaving campus.
Hospitality: No Report
Policy: The Athletic department hired a new business manager, Michelle Harder, and the new Training center is now open.
Communication: No report

New business:

Jim Knotwell notified campus of the freshman year retreat on Jan. 24th. It will study the possibility of a common freshman year experience.

Pro Staff grant proposals deadline is April 1st. The deadline allows for enough time for review. The review process has changed a little, to clarify that the 5 students do not need to be selected by the Pro Staff Senate. Dave may ask Brett Burns for a recommendation of students’ names. A change was also noted in the guidelines for one of the grants.

Dave sent Dr. Collings an email regarding the proposal of a WSC Employee of the Month award. He has not heard back yet. Dave will wait to hear back and if he does not, we can first establish guidelines for the award and maybe only on semester basis only. Kevin will visit Dr.Waddington on the possibility. Senators can work on possible guidelines for the award for the next meeting.

Hours were discussed for the new Jitters at Conn Library. It seemed that the 7:30-2:00 is too little time for students to enjoy the benefit.
