Professional Staff Senate Meeting Minutes
March 3rd, 2006
Call to order:
Dave Graber, chair, called to order the regular meeting of the WSC Professional Staff Senate at 11:00AM on March 1st, 2006
Attendance:
The following Senators were present: Derek Anderson, Lin Brummels, Eddie Elfers, Brandon Eckmann.
Absent: Kevin Halle, Tammy Tyson, Oliver Twelvetrees.
Support Staff representative: Bill Long
Approval of minutes from last meeting:
The minutes from the February 1st meeting were approved accordingly.
Committee Reports:

Mentoring: The brochures are done and have been delivered to HR – they will be given to all new staff and faculty hired at Wayne State.

Recognition: Everything is on track for the Aug 11th event

Hospitality: Card sent to Gayle Poirier following surgery

New business:
Employee Recognition: Lin presented a draft set of Professional Staff Recognition criteria and a nomination form. Several suggestions for improvements were made. The suggestions will be incorporated into the form and the list, which will be presented to Dr. Collings for approval along with a request to fund the recognition event twice a year. The recognitions will be presented at the annual meeting in August along with the longevity awards.
Professional Staff grants: Dave will send reminder to Eddie to go to all professional staff that the professional staff grant deadline is approaching. All grants due April 1, 2006 to President's office. Dave will contact Student Senate President and VP to help evaluate grant applications. Efforts will be made to have an RA and an athlete on the review committee.
Parking Committee: Derek is the PSS representative. The committee has never met.
AQIP: Eddie reported that the AQIP committee met and will be initiating the process to develop new action plans. Strategic plan revisions will be on the WSC website
VPAF committee: Mitch DeBoer and Bev Buhrman are professional staff on the VPAF search committee.
Support staff note: Bill long reported issues from the Safety committee concerning upcoming street repairs on campus and anticipated parking problems. The Safety committee also discussed the smoking policy. Smokers are supposed to stay 10 feet from the door but the campus has decided not to post signs or move the ashtrays, so it is up to the smoker to move him/herself away from doors.
