Professional Staff Senate Meeting Minutes
November 2, 2006
Call to order:
Derek Anderson, Chair, called the meeting to order at 2:00 p.m.; a quorum was present.
Attendance:
Senators present: Mary Carstens, Derek Anderson, Lin Brummels, Marcus Schlichter, Loren Kucera, & Bev Buhrman
Absent: Brook Bredenberg, Kevin Halle,
Approval of minutes:
Minutes were approved from September and October as presented.
Committee Reports:
- Mentoring: Lin Brummels: No report.
- Social: Mary Carstens: A pot-luck dinner was held 11/17/06 and went well. Mary will send out a survey to professional staff members to determine what other social events may be of interest.
- Recognition: Derek Anderson: The recognition event is set for 8/9/07. Derek will work with HR on this event.
- Continuing Ed: Kevin Halle: No Report
- Membership: Loren Kucea: Loren will keep track of new employees and provide updates as needed.
- Hospitality: Bev Buhrman – Bev noted that we have $368.84 on hand. The checking account will need to be changed over to Bev or re-located to an on campus account. The Senators felt that we would like to keep the off campus account. Bev will apply for the Federal ID number and get the account changed over. She sent cards to Julia White and Linc Morris as they left for new jobs. Bev will send notes of recognition for other professional staff life events as needed. Please contact Bev when members are aware of these events.
- Policy: No Report
- Communication: Marcus Schlichter: Marcus received an update from HR regarding membership. He invitations to the pot-luck and has forwarded other communication to members.
New business:
Professional Staff Recognition: Derek reviewed a copy of the recognition recommendation form. It was approved by the Senate. Derek will send the form to Ron Vick to add to the Professional Staff Senate website. Once this form is available, all professional staff are invited to submit recommendations for recognition.
Constitution changes were discussed. Lin revised the language on how to approve a change in the constitution and reviewed this change with the Senate members. The changes were approved by the Senate. The revised constriction will be send to Ron Vick to put on the website.
Derek reviewed the PSS website with members. The problem with accessing the constitution was corrected since the last meeting.
It was noted that state employees are not to use state property to disseminate information or take stands on political issues such as Initiative 423.
