Professional Staff Senate Meeting Minutes
September 7, 2006
Call to order:
Derek Anderson, Chair, called the meeting to order at 2:03 p.m.; a quorum was present.
Attendance:
Senators present: Mary Carstens, Derek Anderson, Lin Brummels, Kevin Halle, Loren Kucera Bev Buhrman, Marcus Schlichter
Absent: Athletic Representative
Guests: Bill Long – Support Staff Senate and Vice President Beth Kroger
Approval of minutes:
The Senate approved minutes from August 2006.
Committee Reports:
- Mentoring: Lin Brummels : No Report
- Social: Mary Carstens: Brunch will be scheduled around the time of Fall Break
- Recognition: Derek Anderson: The Senate hosted a successful staff recognition brunch
- Continuing Ed: Kevin Halle: No Report
- Membership: Loren Kucea: No Report
- Hospitality: Bev Burhman: collected dues at the brunch. 30 members out of 120 paid dues, and $99 was collected. Current account balance $365.84 Lin Brummels was sent a sympathy card for the passing of her father-in-law.
- Policy: No Report
- Communication: Marcus Schlichter: He will establish a membership list and make sure it’s up to date.
New business:
Senate Chair Derek Anderson welcomed all new Senators to the Professional Staff Senate
Committee appointments were made. Each Senator will chair a standing committee and report at each Senate meeting.
Derek Anderson mentioned that the Nebraska State College System Board of Trustees will be meeting on campus on Thursday September 13th. An open forum is scheduled at 3:30 for Professional Staff members.
Derek introduced the new Vice President for Administration and Finance Beth Kroger. VP Kroger discussed current happenings with her departments and campus as a whole.
- Working on improving campus communication by means of technology.
- Campus workshop on Identity Theft.
- A brief summary of construction projects on campus either current or upcoming.
Marcus reported on the centennial celebration for 2010. The committee is looking at developing a logo to be used during the celebration, as well as a book compiling all of the college’s history. A sub-committee has been formed to develop these things along with the centennial celebration.
Some discussion was held on a Friday flex schedule and the lack of a formal snow policy.
Lin mentioned the change to the Senate constitution to reflect the slate of officers. Specifically the position of chair elect, chair and past chair.
